We all know that the natural, mother-nature made characteristics in a slab of granite is what makes it unique and eye catching. Often fabricators get calls from customers about “cracks” in their beautiful stone. Many times, these “cracks” are not cracks at all, but fissures. Fissures, an elongated opening, is very common in many naturally occurring stones. They develop during the repeated cycles of heating and cooling during the stone’s formation. A fissure is natural to the stone, whereas a crack is created by accident.
